Remembering Sunny Jacobs

Following the tragic death of Sunny Jacobs in June of 2025, predeceased by her partner Peter Pringle, we want to reflect on her life, and her association with our Project.
The Irish Innocence Project at Griffith College fondly remembers both Sunny and Peter, and a our long history of collaboration on behalf of the wrongfully convicted.
Sunny and Peter are pictured here at a 2015 International Innocence Project conference hosted in Griffith College, Dublin, by the Irish Innocence Project at Griffith College, at which both Sunny and Peter spoke.
This was but one occasion where they gave of their time to speak with our students and the wider community telling their own story, but perhaps more importantly bringing into focus for all who listened the absolute necessity for the work of innocence projects, and the imperative to support those who believe they have been, and have been shown to be, wrongfully convicted.
Sunny and Peter – in both separate and unique ways and as a couple – brought light to the lives of those who encountered them, and there was almost a shining beacon of hope which emerged from and transcended their individual and collective lives, stories, and tireless work.
Their loss is a loss to humanity – a loss to innocence and justice communities – a loss to the exoneree community – and leaves a legacy of hope and activism which inspires.
We feel their loss, yet are inspired by having known them.
